Justification: N-body simulation aims to simulate a dynamical systems of a large number of particles. It has important applications in many scientific field, ranging from astrophysics to molecular dynamics. Due to the importance of such problems, N-body simulation has received considerably research attention and many important methods have been developed. More recently, thanks to the fast development of computational power, it becomes possible to conduct N-body simulations at a very large scale, and on the other hand, such large-scale simulations have found new applications in machine learning and data science. These new applications demand new methods and algorithms which can take advantage of the state-of-the-art computational technology, and as such the goal of this special issue is to discuss novel methods and algorithms for N-body simulations, especially for systems of very large scale, and explore both classical and emerging application fields of these techniques.
